FAQs

  • What is the price?

The price varies for every vehicle based on size and rust. The range starts $800+gst and has gone as high as $5000+gst for the worst vehicle we have seen! The best way to get a price is to bring the vehicle to the shop for a quote, failing that we can often provide a rough estimate online with make, model and a rough underbody condition description. 70% of all vehicles are within the $1000+gst to 2500+gst range.

  • How do you come to the price?

The price changes based on the make, model and underbody condition (i.e how much rust is on your underbody). A bigger vehicle like a 4wd is going to cost more than a small hatchback, purely because the time taken to work through the underbody components is longer on a larger car vs a smaller one. Also the more rust and dirt on the underbody, the more work that is required to fix it up, which also increases the price.

  • How long is the work time for each vehicle?

We regularly spend 15-20 hours of total work hours per vehicle.

  • How long do you need my car for?

3 days is the typical time frame.

  • How long does the protection last?

Again the maintenance is the key, but the manufacturer of our rust protection paint products indicates that 10 years is the estimated life with good maintenance practices.

  • Is there a warranty on the work?

We cannot warranty/guarantee the work. The reason for that is, if someone takes one of our protected cars and dips it in salt water and does not maintain the vehicle, it will rust no matter what protection is on the vehicle so good maintenance post service is still the key!

  • Can you describe the process you go through?

First we will use our specially designed rust removal laser to remove the surface rust. You can see from our videos how effective this treatment is and its effectiveness outperforms dry ice and sandblasting. Next we will underbody wash your vehicle on the hoist, we use a host of chemicals to get through the road grime and any remaining surface rust, high pressure all that off and then check. If more work is required at this point, we laser and wash again till the vehicle is clear. Then once it's dry, rust-free and clean from grime, we then apply the rust protection coating. Finally we complete the process with a rust protection oil which is an added layer of protection.

  • What rust protection coating product is used on my vehicle?

We do not like to release the names of our specific suppliers. However we use a high-performance rust-preventative coating which does not cover rust, its purpose is to chemically bond to metal surfaces in such a way that locks out moisture and prevents further rusting by creating a very hard shell over the metal. It resists chipping and cracking which is where the corrosive process begins.

  • Could I do this process myself?

You could, you could find rust converters and manually remove the rust with some elbow grease by lying underneath your vehicle. You would spend two full Saturday's under your vehicle removing the rust manually and then applying a rust protection coat, somewhere upwards of 20 hours for a full vehicle if you choose to DIY is the typical time commitment. The other issue you face is if you did not complete the rust removal correctly, it can return quickly, which will render your work wasted, so it's important to make sure all rust is removed correctly.

  • Will the rust protection damage any other paint surfaces?

It will not damage any other paint surfaces.

  • Will the laser damage any of my underbody components?

The laser will not damage your underbody components. The laser can be set to the size of a pinprick, so its very slow, but can be manuvered very accurately. It does not warp or damage any surface metal given its small contact point.

  • What are the risks of not treating surface rust?

The risks are that you can compromise the safety of your vehicle if the rust is to eat through your chassis metal. You will reduce the resale value of your vehicle. Your vehicle does not look good. You will also have a tough time selling the vehicle because it is difficult to pass a roadworthy test with rust on your underbody.
